Frustration and excitement. Unrelated.

Today is a day of work frustration. I’m semi-coerced into doing this thing in Boston, and I asked for the email of the house staff there to get lists and drawings, and then several days later (today) get a rehearsal report that says “(stage manager) is working on getting pdf’s of the drawings and lists, but already has the vectorworks files. Do you have vectorworks? I can forward them”. This is frustrating on several levels. Mainly- I have specific questions that I need to ask, and I know what to ask for. That’s why I wanted to be in direct contact with whoever does this at the theater. Why is the stage manager taking it up on herself to do that for me? Inappropriate, and slows down the entire process. 2- Having taken that upon herself, why didn’t she forward the vw files right away with a note saying hey, I’m working on getting pdf’s if these don’t work, let me know if you can open them. Frustrating. And of course, the more I think about it, the more irritated I get. I sent her a sharp email, I hope not too sharp. I’m usually pretty doormat-ish with things like this, so when I actually take a stand I worry that I’m being too much of a bitch. Oh well.

And then for the dance show that I do in new jersey every year, the school redid it’s theatre, so I can’t daisy straight into the dimmers anymore, and I’m trying to find out how I can loop my instruments into their system and I’m being given the runaround on who to talk to.

The good news is that I have a good amount of work between now and camp, and at the moment the last day of work is June 7th, which gives me 3 free weeks between then and camp starting, and John and I are hashing out the road trip details, and I might repaint my room in my free time, and it looks like I maybe found someone to sublet and take care of the cats while I’m gone, so I’ll get to keep most of the money I make at camp, and they keep giving me raises so it’s turning into a pretty good job, and actually being able to save money this year is great, and I’m also still waiting on my tax refund, since my accountant filed for an extension, so that’s even more money to look forward to. I’m feeling pretty good about the next few months.

The road trip plans are in total flux, since he can’t get a ton of time off, and driving all the way there would be a little rushed and it would be nice to actually enjoy the drive and stop and see stuff. An option that was just brought up was flying to Vegas and renting a car there, circling through the square states, and then driving all the way to camp. Which would be pretty nice, I’m liking this option best, but it does involve renting a car which adds to the expense. So we’ll see. In any case, I’m excited.
